But the Annual Report table does not provide Pre-Covid data, 2019-2020.
The membership table in this year’s report only goes back to 2020-2021.

Total British Judo membership 31 March 2024,
For BJA England, NIJudo, JudoScotland, Welsh Judo, AJA & BJC = 38,823

FACT CHECK

On the face of it, great news for judo in Britain and an achievement by the BJA, Board and Executives!

If it were true!

Total membership, 31 March 2024 = 38,823

But … the 2022 BJA Annual Report does contain the Pre-Covid membership figure for 2019-2020.

47,626

So today’s British Judo Membership is NOT higher than Pre-Covid but at least 8,800 members lower!

Notable is also how this year’s 2024 BJA Annual Report does not contain the previous 6 year’s membership figures as was previous practise.

This could be because when Andrew Scoular and the BJA Chair, Ronnie Saez, presented and later launched the British Judo 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.

They had stated there were 100,000 people in Britain practising judo, 50% of these being BJA!

This is far from a “one-off” by the BJA CEO, Andrew Scoular.

He is on record lying in connection with the bullying complaint made against Lucy Renshall and coach Jamie Johnson when he stated that the disciplinary panel was “fully independent”.

After he and the BJA Board of Directors had rigged the panel with the daughter of the BJA Sports Director who also has a long history of close personal relationships with both BJA Directors and Executives.

Statement: British Judo Internal Investigation

The independent investigation has now concluded and the report was considered by a fully independent disciplinary panel.”
