Summary

If the BJA selection policy link doesn’t work, the policy may have been altered since 13 July 2026!

GBJC regularly checks whether BJA documents have been secretly updated or altered, this having happened many times before.

Most recently, GBJC uncovered the 233 secret changes the BJA made in their “Cadet Identification Ranking Policy”, some time between January 2026 and March 16 2026.

You can also join the GB Judo Community or GB Judo Event FaceBook groups, ask questions anonymously and find out when other secret changes have been detected and verified.

Each nation can enter a maximum of 18 Juniors, 9 Men and 9 Women at the Individuals Championships.

Max 2 in a weight category.

A Mixed Team should consist of 6 (six) athletes, one in every official mixed team category, and has the possibility to have up to 6 reserves, 3 women and 3 men.
Weight Categories:
Women: -57 kg, -70 kg, +70 kg
• Men: -73 kg, -90 kg, +90 kg.

Comment:

In effect, according to the EJU criteria the BJA could select 18 British Juniors for the individuals Championships and an additional 12 for the Mixed Teams competition.

Panel voting members:

Chair – Kate Howey
WCPP Programme Director

A minimum of 3 Home Nation development coaches*:
GB Home Nations Coach – Chloe Cowen
England – Jason Parsons
Scotland – Takafumi Kitahara
NI – Sarah Barritt
WJA – Tom Hughes (Natalie Powell?)

Non Voting Panel Member:

Recording Officer
Independent Observer

The Chair (Kate Howey) submits the panel’s selection to the BJA PAG (Performance Advisory Group) that verifies the selection and communicates it via email and on the BJA website.

COMMENT:

Based upon the BJA’s selection policy and results, only 4 British Juniors will be selected to compete at this year’s European Junior Championships.

Based upon previous BJA practises and selections, they will not be sending a British Mixed Team to the Championships.
Because it is “Not in the best interest of British Judo”.

*Clarification of the selection panel and identity of the BJA PAG has been requested.

Cadet Selection

European Cadet Championships 2026

Blog:  SBE – GBJC Lead Moderator, 5th May 2026

With just under 2 months to go before the European Cadet Championships 2026, the BJA announced on their website the only 6 selected British Cadets to compete.
Friday 1st May, before the Bank Holiday weekend.

6 British Cadets were selected,
5 English and 1 Scottish.
Congratulations to the 6, their clubs & coaches and especially their parents that financed them through at least the past year.

The BJA selection process is outlined in a summary section below.
Identifying the panel members (voting) at Stage 2.

NOTE:
It is possible to select a Cadet, beyond results only, by using section 12.6:

“An athlete’s future potential as a junior or senior athlete;”

A harsh and unfair decision that 30 other British cadets were not selected or even considered using this clause!
Particularly when you look at the BJA’s “strategies”, documentation, policies and of course.
The BJA’s 5 million pound annual budget, that includes £2 million pounds public funding every year, earmarked Olympic focused development and achieving medals.

BLOG CONTENT!

The BJA operates by a mantra of “How We Have Always Done It”, supported by its North Korean News Propaganda output to its members, clubs, coaches and parents.

Alway communicating everything as being …

“BRILLIANT”

Once you start looking closer at the foundation for British Judo’s development strategies, cracks not only show but the inconsistencies, incompetence and managerial indifference throughout the BJA structures and “systems” become clear.

This blog exposes the shocking facts as to why British Judo development has failed for many years and will continue to do so unless dramatic change happens.

The BJA has not only failed its members, clubs, coaches and judo parents, but judo itself, over the past 10 years.

Even though, Judo today is a multi-million pound “industry” in Britain.

The BJA alone has an annual turnover of £5 million pounds, 40+ paid staff and the BJA CEO, Andrtew Scoular, awards the BJA Chair and a secret handful of “excutives” approx £400,000 every year, on top of any salaries!
For unspecified “services” to the Ltd Company.

Since 2017, these payments amount to approx £3,5 million pounds!
Or as one BJA Director, Claire Lish, once infamously stated:
“There is no remuneration [payment]”, after just having approved over £455,000 as such!

The GB Judo Community

The GB Judo Community

The GB Judo Community came about as a voluntary initiative to improve judo in Britain through information and action.

It was also part of a self-learning process I went on, initially with social media, later in creating and maintaining a website.  This one you are now visiting.
Learning started from scratch and I have made more mistakes than possible to remember.

Speaking up & asking questions …

I have been at the receiving end of the abuse, lies, accusations by Bullying regime culture in British Judo.  Multiple times.

That I will soon, time permitting, document – one by one.

From outright lies, to distract from facts and information published, to threats made against supporters, friend, against my children and myself.

But, the postives are many and outweigh the past negativities.

Watching Management and their “Minions” lose control over the narrative,
due to more and more realising things are going as BRILLIANTLY, as always being stated.

Seeing the community starting to find its voice,
speaking up and asking questions.

What you can do in this specific selection case, is ask for clarification and ask questions!

I, unlike most others, don’t shy away from the confrontation that comes with exposing facts, information and outright lies,
that the “Favoured Few” don’t want to be known.

Whether it is about:

Safeguarding!

A junior selected for the 2024 Junior World Championsips, despite not fulfilling the weight group criteria, he was selected in.
IMO, a perfectly good selection choice due to the section 12.6 selection possibility!

“An athlete’s future potential as a junior or senior athlete;”

But, since this selection had been secretive, by pointing out the selection criteria led to a spurious and ridiculous BJA Safeguarding “concern” raised over my comment “Who ate all the pies” – as possibly being “Fat Shaming”?
Look up what “fat shaming” actuially is defined as!
“Concern” outright rejected.

Or his mother getting a Judo Parent in the GBJC FB group to copy/paste snide comments about me attacking “poor defenceless cadets”,
when being critical of the Cadet development structures, policies, strategies, etc.

As you can see in this blog, I am not attacking cadets but very critical about the strcutures and support they are given to make them prepared to compete internationally.

But if you are one of the “Favoured Few” that benefits from how the system currently workss, or not as may be the case, receiving “favours” “secret funding”, etc.

A judo politician or a “favoured” will rather attack an individual than discuss the facts & issues – openly.
