In 2024, The British Judo Association Chief Executive, Andrew Scoular, laid the blame for judo’s poor retention rate of only 35% uniquely with grassroots Judo club’s level of “customer care”!
A uniquely management biased opinion considering:
The vast majority of grassroots judo clubs are operated by unpaid volunteers and coaches.
Coaches have to pay for their own education and to maintaining their licenses..
All BJA membership and grading fees that grassroots clubs and coaches generate, 100% is sent to BJA head Office and then Area Committees, such as BJA london, receive 20%.
In 2023-2024, the BJA received over £1,7 million pounds of income from:
Grassroots membership & grading fees along with their member’s attendance of events and competitions.
Below are some of the most important and relevant information for many.
Check with the Judo competition organisers, the competition Licensee or event hosts for further Information.
